Quick, easy to make recipe for delicious feta cheese pastry appetizer that will fill your home with aroma of fresh baked pastry. Great for any season!
Ingredients
- 250 gr Flour
- 250 gr Feta Cheese
- 250 gr Salted Butter
- 1 Egg
- 2 teaspoons Salt
- 10 gr Caraway Seeds
- 10 gr Sesame Seeds
- Dough
- 250 gr Flour
- 250 gr Feta Cheese
- 250 gr Salted Butter
- 1 teaspoon Salt
- Egg Glaze
- 1 egg
- 1 teaspoon Salt
- 10 gr Caraway Seeds
- 10 gr Sesame Seeds
- Make Dough
- In mixing bowl combine flour, cheese, butter and salt.
- Mix with mixer until ingredients are well combined.
- Turn dough out onto a plate and cover with plastic wrap.
- Refrigerate at least 1 hour or overnight.
Dough can be frozen and used later. Just close it tightly in plastic freezer bag and wrap so it does not absorb flavors and aroma from other food in freezer.
- Prepare Egg Glaze
- Beat in 1 teaspoon of salt and egg.
- Stamp out Bites
- Remove dough from the fridge and form a ball.
- With rolling pin, roll out the ball to a 1/2 inch thickness.
- Stamp out shapes with small approximately 1" diameter cookie cutters or cut with knife into 1/2 x 2 inch sticks.
- Reroll scraps and repeat until all dough is used.
If frozen, refrigerate it before use until soft enough to roll out and cut.
Unbaked bites can also be frozen and baked later. Cut aluminum foil in sheets of the shape and size of freezer container, line bottom of container and place 1 layer of unbaked bites. Cover first layer with aluminum foil (do not press) and line bites on it. Repeat until top of the container reached. Close plastic container and wrap it with plastic wrap to protect aroma and freshness.
- Bake
- Line baking sheet with parchment paper.
- Arrange feta cheese pastry on paper with 1/4" gap between bites.
- Using pastry brush glaze pastry with egg glaze.
- Sprinkle sesame or caraway seeds over the glaze.
- Bake at 425F for 20 min until golden brown.
- Remove baking sheet out of the oven and leave it to cool 5-10 minutes at room temperature.
- Serve Warm or Cold
- Transfer feta cheese pastry bites to serving bowl and enjoy.
